Pocket Knitting

Dishcloths have rapidly become my favorite portable item to knit - super fast, requires minimal mental acuity and tucks to nicely in my favorite purse. "Pocket Knitting" is what I've dubbed these little gems.

Each week I have the distinct privilege of sitting in the cafeteria at the high school, and watching the little darlings heathens, scarf down their lunch in the most obnoxious manner possible and fly back out the door. During this time I knit dishcloths. It makes the duty almost tolerable. These simple knits permit me to keep my eyes on those delightful teens terrors that I have come to adore:D

Last week I was reading EZ, and I came across the Square Baby Blanket pattern in her book and thought - How would it look in a variegated dishcloth yarn. I gave it a test spin and was pleased with the results.

I liked it so much I made 3 more.

The yellow one was presented to a teacher whose birthday was a few days ago and she promptly put in a request for a few more. To which I graciously obliged. Someone please smack me - I'm doing it again.

Though I must admit that I'm rather embarrassed to be knitting dishcloths for all the world to see. They think I'm just a little touched in the head. I would rather be caught knitting something elegant or sophisticated in the public eye:D

For those of you who would like whip up a few I wrote a pattern for you to try. Give it a whirl and let me know what you think.

Eidt: February 28th. Pop on over to my 4 corners gallery and have a look at all the pretties. Don't forget about the contests. The person who submits the 100th picture will win a prize. Also, I will have a random selection from the 100 pics and that person will win a prize too! If those two persons happen to be sock knitters, they will get something special from the Loopy Ewe! Send your pics to a1870pearl at yahoo dot com

Edit: A few of you are having problems getting the pattern. If you can't print it - let me know and I will send it to you via email. email me: a1870pearl at yahoo dot com

Wow, those are so cool. Thanks for posting the pattern! Is it too late to add a photo to your gallery? I posted a pic yesterday to my blog...very pretty knit in variegated yarns!

I love the 4 corners dishcloth but am unclear on how to put it together at the end. I tried sewing one when finished but it didn't look so good. Help, any suggestions??

The video for the "invisible" cast-on can be found at knittinghelp dot com (www.knittinghelp.com)
just search for invisible.

I see someone else has asked about the "invisible cast on", but I can't see the answer or the link to the answer on your site. Sorry if I'm being dumb, but I'd love to know about this too. Great cloth, can't wait to get started!

How do you do the invisible cast on? The pattern is beautiful especially the baby blanket.

Hi, just ran across your website and will definitely try the four corners pattern. I'm hooked on dishcloths and as to your comment about knitting dishcloths, I felt the same way until I realized how much you can learn and how many different patterns, designs and stitches there can be in dishcloths. Thanks again, Libby

Thanks for the neat pattern! and I liked your 50 things about yourself. =)

Thanks for posting the 4 corners dishcloth! never did understand EZ's blanket. Was snowed in yesterday, and this project saved my sanity!

Love it! Want to make one but can't open a doc file. Do you have a pdf version or would you please send it to my email addie? Thx

I love the pattern but can not get into the pattern. Is there any way you could e-mail it to me? thank you
Ruth

Are you a member of our group? We knit dishcloths: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MonthlyDishcloths/

Can you share that pattern?

Hi!

I like your 4-corner dishcloth. Do you have any idea where I might find Zimmerman’s square baby blanket?

Thanks,
Deb

Oh! Very nice! I am anxious to try this!

Oh, those are cool, Abigail! I'll have to knit up a few of those.

I think I'd rather be knitting dishcloths in a cafeteria than anything more elegant. Especially after the way you described the eating habits.

Have you seen these dishcloths?

There were pictures posted on Project Spectrum today and I thought of you. I really liked the church dishcloth.

Thanks for the pattern Abigail. I confess that I do not have a good relationship with cotton yarn, but I have been known to whip up a dishcloth or two in the summer.

thank you so much for sharing your pattern girl! this is going to be a great "recovery" knit for me ; )
its hard to say no to someone who loves handknits... maybe try talking her into learning how to knit?

Thanks for the great pattern.

They look great with teh varigation! Very sophisticated.

Gracias Abigail for the pattern. I was looking at Trek's dishcloth using your pattern. Wish I could leave her a comment too, but when I tried, (after waiting 20 min.) couldn't get my comment to post. Your typepad is way better for posting comments

Very cool, and definitely on my list of "things to do" -- thanks for sharing!

Very cool dishcloths, They look all fancy. I might need to make one for my mommy.

PS: I finished one of your socks tonight!

I simply can not wait to print that pattern off today. I have a ton of dishclothe yarn to use up.

Cool! Thanks for posting this. I can't wait to try the pattern! I'll knit dishcloths between doing other things that seem to take forever so I get the satisfaction of a "project OFN", if you can call a dishcloth a "project"... But they're fun for a quick knit, and practical... Use 'em everyday!

Very pretty cloths. I like how the corners are gently rounded. Thanks so much for sharing your pattern.
